In the darkness

There is nothing special about Brookton. It just another town, sure it has as a boarding school, but that’s nothing special. Sure its run by an ex-military logistics expert, but that still shouldn’t have caused this. There are disappearances all over the area, strange disappearances. Mutilated animal corpses found around. They look like they have been eaten by something, but no one can be sure. Police have tried investigating, but never find anything. This also attracts a lot of supernatural hunters, half of which never return. The police assure everyone that nothing is wrong; most people believe them as the disappearances aren’t very common in a single area, until now. The kidnappings around Brookton are increasing; it’s about 1 person a fortnight, but that’s going up. This has attracted a lot of attention. The latest batch of supernatural hunters has come, to make themselves famous or just for their love of the supernatural. The police have started their latest investigation, their new police chief is forceful, so she is making sure they investigate everything. The school year has just started, so the newest lot of students have rolled up, they are extreme in differences, from very rich to poor, the school is amazingly cheap for a boarding school. Finally there are a 4th group of people, SWAT, CIA, Mercs, no one is really sure who they are. They are heavily armed and are rarely seen, some people still don’t believe they exist. As the kidnappings increase, everything begins getting worse, more animal corpses appear, and the first human corpse has been found.

As things get worse, what role will you play?

Alice checked her watch. "Almost time for the daily call to mother," she mumbled to herself, as she shook her head over the thought what her mother would have to tell her today. There was barely anything new, usually, as they spoke every day anyway, and the school year had only just started again. She picked up her books, to move out of the class. She couldn't call there yet, she'd have to wait until she was in her bed room. She really wasn't in the mood to make a phone call to her mother, in fact, but she recalled that her mother would be calling her anyway, even if she was only five minutes late. Ever since the disappearings, her mother had been acting overly paranoid. Of course this wasn't the case for Alice's older brother, who lived in the big city, where actually less happened than here, in Brookton. Alice was just her mother's dear daughter, and she wanted her both close, and safe. 'Then why not move?' Alice had asked her mother. But the woman had not wanted to: they had no money to move, as the older brother needed it for university, nor did she want to. Emotional ties to the place? Sure, Alice would swallow that excuse, but she still thought this somehow had to do with their father.

The seventeen year old female moved out of the class with her stuff under one arm, to get stuck on the stairs behind a couple slow girls who were talking about various unimportant things. As she got outside of the building, she wondered why she couldn't just change schools, and go with a train or a bus to another city every day. Her friends had moved there, so why couldn't she even just go to school there too? Why wasn't her mother paranoid enough? Alice considered calling them as well tonight, but they could be going out, or studying, or having fun doing stuff together. As she only had a few minutes left before she had to call her mother now, she hurried a bit more, almost to bump into a few people in the hall of the dorms where she stayed at. "Sorry," she mumbled, as she moved over to the stairs to go to her floor.

Kain had wandered into Brookton when he had heard of the problems happening. He had brought little with him apart from his two weapons and a few protective trinkets. His weapon selection consisted of one semi-auto pistol, which he could load either a clip of silver tipped bullets or normal bullets, and an odd looking straight razor covered with occult symbols. He wasn’t particularly strong, but his slim stature and active lifestyle had let him make up for this with speed and precision.

Kain had laid low in the Brookton Motel since he arrived, just waiting and watching for another disappearance to happen, so that he may assess the problem first hand. The few hunters he had seen he avoided, he knew that young blood like himself often made mistakes that, in the end could, prove fatal. The people he talked to about the events, family members mostly, were grief stricken and confused about what had happened. He had been in his motel bedroom for the last two days now. Preparing, praying and resting. As he lay on his bed he looked deeply into his Yantra amulet, almost as if he could see the gods themselves past its silver reflection. As his concentration faded his mind moved to more worldly matters, such as his empty stomach. As he left the room he grabbed the razor off the bed side table and placed it neatly in his inner jacket pocket, being cautious would have counted for nothing if he was caught unprepared.

Some girl is rushing though the hallways and almost bumps into her, quickly muttering sorry. God its good not having to worry about school anymore Alyssa thinks to herself. She was only 17, she should still be in school, but she was taken away. She had an unnatural talent for weapons. They recruited her 6 months ago; she completed 3 years training in 4 months. She is always being told that she is the best and that she is going places, she never believed them. This was her first mission, she was nervous, but she knew what she was doing. Get to the target, a balcony on the top floor, remain unnoticed, a use thermal binoculars to watch for strange movement in the area.

As she walked to the area, she began to think about her family. She missed them sometimes, but her job was exiting and, more importantly, it pays a lot. Thanks to her, her parents no longer have to work and she is solely putting her older sister through medical school. She did have anything to complain about, she realised the more she thought about it. She had no worries, she didn’t have to worry about school, about finding a job, about owning a house. She wasn’t even really risking her life, she has never seen anything close to combat in the last 6 months, they leave that to the pros. She was happy with her life, but walking through the halls made her jealous, seeing all the girls with their friends, talking and laughing, she did miss having friends, she wasn’t allowed to keep track of her friends. She also got jealous seeing the couples holding hands, she has never had a boyfriend. Before she was recruited she never worried about it, to the point where is never happened, and after, well she is the only person her age involved in any activities, everyone else is at least 10 years older. Her thoughts were interrupted as she reached the point, there were very few people around, enough to allow her to start her surveillance. She grabbed her binoculars, turned them on, and prepared for a few hours of sitting around doing nothing.

“Room 45, safeties off” The sergeant said to the officers preparing to breach. David flicked the safety off his mp5, a typical breeching weapon, they crowded around the door. “Go” whisperers the sergeant. Someone kicks down the door and the rush into the room screaming, but there is nobody there. “Son of a bitch” mutters the sergeant “another false lead.” “What with all the false leads? Does it usually happen this often?” asks a new officer, this was his 3rd breach, and every other one had also been a false lead. “Yes it usually happens this often” David answered “but normally we don’t investigate anything that sounds off. But this new chief is making us investigate EVERYTHING” “and that’s bad?” the newbie replies with a small amount sarcasm. “Yes its bad, we should be looking elsewhere, somewhere where we might actually FIND something” David replies. “You two stop fighting and search the bloody room” the sergeant yells. After about 5 minutes of search they leave, having found nothing. They leave, they no longer get annoyed when this happens, they have come to expect this. They head back to the station to report the bad news, even though everyone saw it coming. On the bright side, the coroner should be finished with the body and they may finally get told what happened to them.

And we'll be role-playing quite next to each other, as we need to have an entire town and school as NPCs. NPC posts here and there would be cool, even though I'm pro T1-er enough to bullshit a few posts ♥. We should get at least one or two extra people to actively join this RP though. Otherwise Skulley'll have way too much work to do.))


Alice sighed, holding her telephone against her ear while her mother was talking to her. Her back was leaning against the window while she had one of her arms wrapped around herself, as she sat outside to lock away the sounds coming from the hallway or the other rooms. It was rather warm outside, of course, but on the other hand indeed more quiet. "Yes, mom," was about the only thing she could say for a few minutes, or other reactions without too much content. Her mother was, as expected, telling her to be careful and more stuff like that. She hoped that her mother hadn't heard her sigh, as she let her eyes wander around in the distance, over the little figures running around down there, that she couldn't distinguish the faces of, the trees, the other buildings. "Yeah, mom," she said another time, then to interrupt the next flood of words from her mom with a "and how's Xan?" Xan or Xander was the abbreviation of her brother's name, whose name was in fact Alexander. Xander was always the topic she used to have her mother stop talking about the disappearances and all that. As long as mom didn't notice, it was all fine.

When she finally hung up, she had to rub her lower back, that was a bit stiff from sitting on the pavement of the balcony of her room. Talking to her mom wasn't much more than a monologue from that meno-pausing woman, Alice thought. Her one hand went through the reddish brown curled hair that she had. Worries of a normal human being were many, but so small, so futile and trivial. She pulled the window open to step back into the coolness of her room, while sliding her mobile phone in her pocket again.
