Empathy is a mental ability gained by the diverse and detailed knowledge of Emotions and how they effect the actions of others and yourself.
Someone skilled in the use of empathy; an Empath has the ability to feel the emotions of another if the effects of the ability are not countered with a mental defence, if the cause of a very powerful emapth you could even be able to alter the other persons emotions slightly, making them feel a different emotion to your own advantage.

For example, if you wished to avoid a fight with someone who could not guard their mind from your ability you could calm their rage or fear, or another emotion which previously had been causing them to want to harm you, or this ability could be used to make another feel sorry for you, and pulling them to your side to aid your cause.

This skill is exceptionally difficult to master and teachers are very Rare and hard to convince you are ready to learn.
